How to open check account and apply credit card if no income and credit score?
April 4, 2009 - My wife has SSN, but no job and income. Is she eligible to open a checking account in the bank like Citi, and how? and as she has no credit score, can she even apply a credit card?
Thanks.
She can open a checking account. No job is required to open an account. She can apply for a credit card. Before this credit crunch a wife could apply for a card without a job. She would just use her husband's salary as income. Today, you may have to go joint in her credit card account. Please do this for her, she needs to establish credit. Do not let her carry balances. Pay in full each month for top credit scores. Paying interest and not paying in full can destroy credit - and in some cases marriages. /
- She will not get a credit card with no job or income. She can open a checking account (unless she is in Chexsystems).
- you need money to open a checking account and you need income to get a credit card. If you need a job, well go get one...
She can probably open a checking account but she will need a minimum deposit to get one. It can range from $5.00 on up depending as to what bank she goes through. As for a credit card I doubt that she will be able to get one now because of the economy and the fact that she has no income/no credit score. I would suggest that she wait on the card until she is employed for at least 6 months to a year before she even applies for one. By waiting her chances of getting one will be better for her than what they are now. Keep in mind that there are people with excellent scores and the banks are having there credit limit cut to half of what it was or they are even closing the accounts out due the economy. She would be better off to wait on the card.
She can open a checking account. Neither a job nor income is required. All that is required is money, her SSN, her name, her address, her signature, and a lot of time to read disclosures and fill out forms. Anyone can apply for a credit card, but that is not really the question that you should be asking. The word "apply" means "request" or "fill out form to ask someone if they will give her a card". It does not mean "receive a card". She will probably not receive a credit card.
